- The doctor spoke about the dangers of vitamin D deficiency and overabundance in the body
Not only vitamin D deficiency can be dangerous, but also an overabundance of it. It is important that the symptoms of vitamin D overabundance may be non-specific and characteristic of other diseases. On April 22, Aminat Gappoeva, an endocrinologist at SM Clinic, told Izvestia what the level of vitamin D is considered normal and what is the danger of its excessive concentration.
"According to clinical recommendations, adequate levels are: 30-100 ng/ml, target levels 30-60 ng/ml," the doctor specified.
According to her, the correct method for determining vitamin D levels is to study the concentration of total 25(OH).D in blood serum, which is a generally recognized marker.
Gappoeva noted: people often take the vitamin along with dietary supplements, without even knowing about its presence in the drug. One of the most common causes of the development of symptoms of hypervitaminosis is hypercalcemia, the symptoms of which can be thirst and dry mouth, cardiac arrhythmia, bone and muscle pain, nausea, severe fatigue, as well as irritability, confusion, depressive disorders.
"Decrease in concentration of 25(OH)D in blood serum is more associated with the pathology of the musculoskeletal system due to the involvement of this vitamin in calcium-phosphorus metabolism," the expert explained.
She added that if 25(HE) is insufficientD there is a risk of developing osteoporosis and a decrease in bone mineral density. However, one of the complaints of vitamin deficiency in the blood may be muscle weakness, and in severe cases, skeletal deformities develop.
As Gappoeva explained, vitamin D is found in wild salmon, herring, catfish, canned sardines, mackerel, tuna and beef liver. However, she noted that with a lack of sunlight, the vitamin is practically not produced.
In addition, the endocrinologist recommended not to abuse vitamin-rich medications, because it is unsafe.
Earlier, on April 15, oncologist, oncosurgeon of JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg clinic), PhD Ruslan Basanov told Izvestia about the first signs of throat cancer. According to the doctor, among the symptoms are difficulty swallowing, constant sore throat, giving into the ear, hoarseness of voice, noisy breathing during sleep and causeless coughing while eating. He noted that this disease is often disguised as ordinary inflammatory processes.
