In Moscow, the number of individual entrepreneurs increased by 7%


The number of individual entrepreneurs (IE) in Moscow, according to the Unified Register of Small and Medium-sized Businesses, amounted to almost 461 thousand in the first quarter of 2025. This is 7% more than a year earlier. This was reported to Izvestia on April 22 in the Department of Economic Policy and Development of the city of Moscow.
Moscow is actively developing various digital services that make it easier to register a business, submit reports, make payments, keep accounts and search for customers, and interact with consumers. The city's support measures also contribute to the growth of the number of entrepreneurs: grants and subsidies, deferred payment of rent payments, and consulting support.
About a third of individual entrepreneurs in Moscow — 142.8 thousand people — work in trade, while almost 80% of them are engaged in retail sales. More than 13% are registered in the field of professional, scientific and technical activities, which is 61.1 thousand sole proprietors.
52.5 thousand entrepreneurs work in the field of real estate transactions, which corresponds to 11.4% of the total number of sole proprietors in the capital. The fields of information and communication are also popular, with 7.8% or 35.7 thousand individual entrepreneurs involved. Transportation and storage are carried out by 7.4%, which is 34.2 thousand individual entrepreneurs.
Among the industries showing the greatest growth in the number of individual entrepreneurs, culture, sports, and leisure and entertainment organizations stand out: their number increased by almost 12% over the year.
The top three in terms of growth also included real estate transactions, where the growth was more than 11%, and construction and administrative activities, in which the number of entrepreneurs increased by almost 10.7%.
Individual entrepreneurs are also employers. According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, the average number of employees in the capital's sole proprietors amounted to almost 160 thousand people, which is 4.5% more than a year earlier.
On March 7, the SME Corporation told Izvestia that in 2024, small and medium-sized businesses in Russia attracted a record 1.18 trillion rubles thanks to government support through the National Guarantee System.
