- The expert noted the impact of the agreement between Russia and Iran on strengthening their global positions

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and Iran will strengthen the positions of the two countries in the international arena, as well as their influence on global issues. This was stated by the head of the Center for the Study of Modern Iran, Rajab Safarov, in an interview with Izvestia on April 21.
"Cooperation between Russia and Iran is a factor that Western countries, led by the United States, as well as states that have plans to weaken Russia and Iran, will no longer be able to ignore. <...> This is a very significant breakthrough in strengthening the positions of the two countries," Safarov said.
He called the new agreement a new impetus for the development of the Islamic Republic and the Russian Federation and stressed that it meets the interests of the two countries.
"The agreement brings the relations between the two countries — political, economic, trade, scientific, technical, and military-technical - to a fundamentally new level. <...> This also means that the partnership between Iran and Russia has become more structured. At the moment, we have reached the level of a systematic approach to each other," he said.
The expert stressed that such a rapprochement between the two states strengthens the positions of both Russia and Iran in the international arena, as well as eliminates the mechanisms of external restrictions and attempts to isolate the two states.
"It is absolutely certain that we can rely on each other to resolve regional and global issues. For example, in the field of security, the fight against international terrorism, and so on," Safarov stressed.
The strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran will bring consistency to cooperation between the two countries, the political scientist added.
On April 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement with Iran, signed between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic on January 17. At that time, the Russian leader called the document a breakthrough, and the tasks set out in the new agreement between the two countries were ambitious and aimed at developing cooperation.
On January 14, Iran's Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, announced that the agreement was for a period of 20 years. Prior to that, on January 13, he noted that the agreement contains 47 articles, it covers all areas of bilateral cooperation. According to the diplomat, when drafting the document, the main focus was on "balance, principles of sovereignty and respect for the territorial integrity of countries."
