On April 21, the Tver Region hosted the 23rd meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council of the Russian Federation and the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, which was organized as part of the visit of the republic's delegation to the Upper Volga region. This was reported in the press service of the regional government.

The event was attended by First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakip Asanov, Governor of the Tver Region Igor Rudenya, CEO of the state Corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Bakanov. Representatives of the ministries and departments of the two countries are in videoconference mode.

The main topic of the meeting was the joint projects of Russia and Kazakhstan aimed at preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War. Issues of interregional cooperation and the development of the Russian-Kazakh partnership in the space industry were also discussed.

"We highly appreciate the contribution of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers to the defeat of Nazi Germany. We remember that every second person who left the fraternal Republic for the front gave his life for our Victory. They defended Moscow and Leningrad, fought for Stalingrad, on the Kursk Bulge, near Rzhev, liberated European countries and stormed Berlin. Our peoples defeated fascism together, and it is especially valuable that we celebrate this great holiday together," said Andrei Yatskin.

He stressed that during last year's visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan, the leaders of the two countries adopted a joint statement on deepening strategic partnership. In particular, agreements were reached on holding celebrations on the 80th anniversary of the Victory.

Zhakip Asanov, in turn, said that Russia and Kazakhstan are key partners.

"The visit of Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to us last November was a landmark event and gave a new impetus to our cooperation. The Commission's meeting is taking place on the eve of an important date – the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. And we remember the incredible courage and unity of our peoples in the fight against the enemy," he added.

Discussing the development of cooperation between the two countries, Tver Region Governor Igor Rudenya said that the partnership is developing in key sectors of the economy: mechanical engineering, metalworking, food and light industry. The promising areas are logistics, industry, as well as tourism and culture. When considering the prospects for cooperation in the economy, the parties noted the high potential of tourist exchange, as well as the development of new tourist routes.

In addition, plans for the implementation of Kazakhstani exhibition projects in the region were announced at the meeting.

"Today, the main topic was the preservation of the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War and preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory. Our common task is to convey to the younger generation the value and significance of the feat of Soviet soldiers, home front workers. And a lot is being done in this direction within the framework of interstate cooperation," Zhakip Asanov said following the event.

On the same day, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said that Russia attaches priority importance to the development of relations with Kazakhstan in the trade and economic sphere. This was announced on April 21 by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.
