Reports about the pooling of military resources by the Scandinavian countries may indicate that they have decided to learn how to defend themselves on their own. Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, Professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, told Izvestia on April 21.

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark are actively rearming "due to their desire to confront Russia, as well as due to uncertain security guarantees from the United States." In particular, in 2024, they presented a common defense concept until 2030 within the framework of the Northern Defense Cooperation.

"Historically, the Scandinavian countries have the most Russophobic position in Europe. They seriously believe that the Baltic region will become an arena of military operations between Russia and NATO in the near future. In the context of the gradual withdrawal of the United States from the problems of European security, the Scandinavians decided to learn how to defend themselves on their own," said Feldman.

He also added that Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway, in all likelihood, are no longer relying heavily on the North Atlantic Alliance, which, with the arrival of US President Donald Trump in the White House, "has ceased to seem like a monolith."

"Small regional blocs will continue to emerge within NATO, capable of acting more decisively and aggressively," the political scientist admitted.

On April 14, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that the country's rearmament would cost 300 billion kronor ($30 billion). This will be the largest rearmament of Swedish military defenses since the Cold War, he noted.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on March 18 that Europe should have strong defenses by 2030, for which it needs to rearm and develop capabilities for reliable deterrence.

The West regularly stirs up hysteria among the citizens of its countries, allegedly warning of an imminent war between NATO and Russia. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that there is nothing like this in the country's plans, but it is ready for any scenario.
