Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, is retiring from the post of non-executive chairman of the organization at the age of 87. This was reported on April 21 by the Neue Zürcher Zeitung newspaper.

"Following my recent announcement and at the beginning of my 88th year, I have decided to step down as chairman and member of the Board of Trustees with immediate effect," the newspaper quoted Schwab as saying.

At the same time, it is clarified that this statement was made against the background of a scandal that began back in June 2024. At that time, The Wall Street Journal reported that the organization's employees accused the founder of the forum and other management of discrimination and inappropriate treatment of women and blacks.

Schwab founded the WEF on January 24, 1971. The Forum was conceived as a discussion platform where representatives of global financial elites and government leaders could discuss the prospects and successes in building a new world order. The event takes place annually in winter in the Swiss city of Davos.

The last meeting of the WEF was held in January of this year, while the Russian delegation was not represented at the forum. The Russian Ambassador to Switzerland, Sergey Harmonin, said that the organizers had not sent the appropriate invitations to the Russian Federation, but the Russian side reacted calmly to this decision. He noted that Moscow will continue to solve external problems in those formats that have proven themselves to be promising, for example, within the framework of the BRICS.
