Western countries demonstrate their intention to solve only their own economic problems, not being able to compete in trade, observing the legal norms and laws established for all. This was announced on April 21 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

At the same time, Western states have historically adopted the practice of waging trade and sanctions wars, and therefore there are currently no signs of an improvement in the situation in global economic relations in the future, the diplomat believes.

"Because they are solving their problems, because they do not know how to compete on the basis of law or trade law, because they also come out of trade law," Zakharova said, speaking at the II All—Russian Municipal Forum "Small Motherland – the Strength of Russia."

The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the experience that Russia has gained in recent years, being under pressure from sanctions, is invaluable, so it needs to be further developed and implemented.

On April 9, State Duma deputy Artyom Kiryanov said that US President Donald Trump's tariff policy is one of the latest efforts to reverse the trend and continue the country's struggle for the title of the world's first economy. In these circumstances, Russia needs to use the moments that will appear in the tariff war in order to strengthen its own position in foreign markets, the parliamentarian concluded.

On April 2, Trump announced large-scale trade measures: base tariffs of 10% are being introduced for all products supplied to the United States. For the EU, this figure has been raised to 20%, and for China — to 34%. Later, the United States raised duties against China to 104%.

Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui said on April 21 that China has effective measures and an arsenal of tools to counter "pressure and bullying" from the United States. The ambassador added that the United States, by imposing trade duties and "brandishing a tariff baton," violates the rights of other countries and flouts the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
