The Vatican has announced the ceremony of confirming the death of Pope Francis.
The Vatican will hold a ceremony to confirm the death of Pope Francis and place his body in a coffin on Monday evening. This was announced on April 21 on the website of the press service of the Holy See.
"Tonight, on Monday, April 21, at 20:00 (21:00 GMT), His Eminence Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, camerlengo of the Church, will preside over the ceremonies of death certification and placing the body in the coffin," the statement said.
It clarifies that, according to tradition, the camerlengo must hit his forehead three times with a silver hammer and ask for an answer. Only then does he pronounce the sacramental Latin formula Vere Papa mortuus est (the Pope is really dead).
The death of Pope Francis at the age of 89 became known on April 21. It is noted that the pontiff died at his residence in the Vatican house of Santa Marta.
The last time the pope appeared in public was on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica during Easter celebrations the day before. The pontiff has been struggling with bilateral pneumonia for a long time.
