The Board of Directors approved the procedure for the use of forest fund lands

The government Commission on Legislative Activity has approved a draft law on the procedure for using forest fund lands for the construction, reconstruction and operation of hydraulic structures, sources in the government told Izvestia on April 21. The document is available to the editorial staff.

Vladimir Gruzdev, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Bar Association, explained that amendments are being made to the Forest Code.

"They stipulate that hydraulic structures, reservoirs, can be located on the territories of lands belonging to the forest fund only if the placement of such facilities is provided for by territorial planning documents as objects of federal, regional or local significance," he said.

The expert added that the transfer of lands from the forest fund provided for these purposes to lands of specially protected territories and facilities is not allowed.

"I would like to note separately that this bill is aimed at preserving forests. The amendments will help to avoid unauthorized placement of hydraulic engineering facilities on the territory of forests," concluded Gruzdnev.
