The Kremlin positively assessed the US position on the impossibility of Ukraine joining NATO. This was announced on April 21 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"We have heard from Washington at various levels that Ukraine's membership in NATO is excluded. And this is something that causes our satisfaction and coincides with our position that Ukraine should not be a member of NATO and should not have the prospect of integration with the North Atlantic Alliance," Peskov stressed.

He noted that Kiev's desire to join NATO was one of the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict. According to Peskov, Ukraine's entry into the military bloc would pose a threat to Russia's national interests.

The Kremlin representative added that work to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict continues, but is taking place behind closed doors.
