Over the past weekend, 625 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 79 people were killed and 793 injured 793 people. In addition, 123 accidents involving minors were registered on Russian roads over the weekend, as a result of which four child passengers were killed, 139 young road users, including 56 passengers, 18 cyclists and 23 motor transport drivers were injured.
In the city of Novokubansk, Krasnodar Territory, a 12-year-old motorcyclist in a motorcycle helmet, but without a driver's license, driving a motorcycle related to sports equipment, ran a red light at an intersection and collided with a passenger car. After the first accident, a motorcyclist and his 14-year-old passenger, who were not wearing a motorcycle helmet, ended up on the roadway and were run over by a truck. As a result, a young motorcycle passenger was killed, and the culprit of the accident was hospitalized.
In Tatarstan, a 15-year-old schoolgirl, driving an ATV without a helmet and without a driver's license, did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a passenger car. A 12-year—old brother, a passenger on an ATV, who was also without a motorcycle helmet, died in a car accident. The girl driver herself was hospitalized with injuries.
In the Lipetsk region, the driver of a car lost control, drove off the road and rolled over. The six-month-old son of the culprit of the car accident, who was in the back seat in his mother's arms, died in an accident. The driver and four other passengers, including a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy (who were in the back seat in child seats), were slightly injured and, after receiving medical attention, were sent for outpatient treatment. A similar accident occurred in the Rostov region: a motorist with 1 year of driving experience lost control, drove off the road and crashed into a tree.
Her 4-year-old son, who was in the back seat of the car without a child restraint and was not wearing a seat belt, died in this car accident. The female driver and two other minor passengers - her one—and-a-half-year-old and 5-year-old daughters — were hospitalized with injuries. At the same time, the youngest child was also in the back seat next to her dead brother at the time of the incident, but was in a child safety seat. At the same time, her older sister did not use either a belt or a child restraint device.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting the management of cars and motor vehicles without the appropriate right and driving skills.
"The lack of control over the behavior and leisure of children, especially during country vacations, often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
He reminded that motorcyclists of any age should be excluded from driving on public roads without studying at a driving school and obtaining a driver's license of the appropriate category, as well as refrain from using motor vehicles unregistered in accordance with the established procedure.
"Sports equipment (the so-called pit bikes) can only be operated on specialized tracks. When driving on public roads, its drivers, as well as ATV drivers, automatically become traffic violators and are subject to administrative liability in accordance with the established procedure," Belan stressed.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded that drivers should be extremely careful and careful when driving if there are children in the passenger compartment next to them, who must be transported in compliance with all applicable safety requirements. When transporting children, it is necessary to avoid dangerous maneuvers, driving even in permitted places into the oncoming lane, and speed violations, the department stressed.
