The Head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia, Alexander Kurenkov and Alexander Kozlov, held an operational meeting in Chita on the situation with natural and forest fires in the Trans-Baikal Territory. This was reported on April 21 in the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

"To date, there are 50 forest fires in the territory of the region on an area of about 168 thousand hectares, of which 4 foci have been localized on an area of 1.1 thousand hectares, 15 fires have been eliminated on an area of almost 3.5 thousand hectares," Alexander Osipov, Governor of the Trans—Baikal Territory, is quoted on the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.

According to him, most of the fires occur in the Tungokochensky, Chernyshevsky, Chita, Karymsky districts. At the moment, more than 2.2 thousand people have been involved in eliminating the fire.

According to Nikolai Basov, head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Trans-Baikal Territory, the forest fire situation in the region is under control. The situation is reacted to in accordance with the forecast and the conditions within which it develops.

It is specified that the "emergency situation" regime has been introduced in the forests of the region since April 7. At the moment, 7 forest fires are burning in the Trans-Baikal Territory, whose area is 8075 hectares. The settlements of Bolshaya Tura and Bori are the closest to them. There is no threat to them. Over 170 rescuers and 27 pieces of equipment were deployed to protect settlements in the region.

Earlier, on April 21, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation announced the dispatch of an airmobile group from Khabarovsk to the Trans-Baikal Territory to control the fire situation in the region. It consists of 50 people and seven pieces of equipment.
