Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland are actively strengthening their defense capabilities due to the alleged Russian threat. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on April 20.

"The common Scandinavian view of Russia as a serious future threat has brought these countries closer together than at any time in modern history," the publication emphasizes.

The newspaper noted that the Scandinavian countries admit the possibility of a conflict with Russia over the next five years. Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland have achieved an unprecedented level of coordination in modern history to build up military capabilities.

The publication says that Finland and Sweden have compulsory military service, which allows countries to rapidly increase the size of their armed forces. It is noted that the unification of the Scandinavian countries in the military sphere is also taking place against the background of uncertainty about security guarantees from the United States.

On April 14, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced the largest rearmament plan since the Cold War. He noted that 300 billion crowns ($30 billion) will be needed for these purposes.
