- In the West, they questioned the availability of resources in Ukraine for the interests of the United States

The presence of rare earth metals in the Ukrainian territory has not been confirmed. This was reported by the Spanish newspaper El Mundo with reference to a former senior member of the US State Department's team for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Tyson Barker.
"At the moment, no one knows if there are enough rare earth metals in Ukraine. There are reserves of oil, gas, lithium and graphite there, although they are not among the largest in the world," Barker said.
As specified in the publication dated April 18, the data on Ukrainian resources, which were guided by US President Donald Trump, are outdated, so no major American company has shown interest in a potential agreement between the states.
According to the ex-official, the deal proposed by the President of the United States has no commercial benefit and is more like blackmail.
On the eve of the Ukrainian political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko said that the deal with the United States on rare earth metals is unprofitable for Ukraine. In his opinion, the preliminary version of the agreement does not provide any security guarantees for Kiev, and also puts Ukraine in a de facto colonial position.
In turn, on April 4, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed hope that the resource deal with Ukraine would be signed. According to him, the United States considers the conclusion of an agreement with Kiev as a situation that will bring mutual benefits.
