The Earth is facing a period of intense magnetic storms due to the formation of a large coronal hole in the Sun. This was announced on April 19 by representatives of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics.

According to forecasts, by the evening of Monday, April 21, a sharp increase in activity should be expected, the probability of a strong magnetic storm may reach 80%. On the same day, low atmospheric pressure is also forecast in Moscow.

"At the moment, if the size of the hole remains at the current level, the duration of the storms is expected to be relatively short (two days, from Monday to Tuesday). In negative scenarios, this period may also take over part of the environment," the institute's Telegram channel says.

On the same day, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center, reported that the Earth's geomagnetic field would enter an outraged state on April 22, and G1–G2 class magnetic storms could begin in the evening. He pointed out that the world meteorological centers predict a three—day duration of these magnetic storms - they will end approximately on April 24.
