- The media reported on the beginning of the work of DOGE to reduce government spending in the field of art in the United States

The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has expanded its sphere of influence to include key cultural institutions in the country as part of a cost-cutting campaign. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper on April 20.
It is specified that on April 17, representatives of the department visited the National Art Gallery of the USA, the leading cultural institution in Washington, which preserves the world's art collections.
According to the publication, DOGE's intentions regarding the institution are still unclear. However, according to the newspaper, the visit took place against the background of the expansion of the government spending reduction program by the administration of US President Donald Trump. Last month, the politician issued a decree "On restoring truth and sanity in American History," directed against the Smithsonian Institution, whose representatives talk about issues of race and gender in a different way from the government. In addition, back in February, Trump took control of the Kennedy Center, the authors of the material remind.
It is noted that the National Art Gallery was officially established by the Congress in 1937 and is managed by a council of high-ranking government officials. The gallery's main funding comes from the federal budget, which DOGE intends to reduce by $1 trillion.
On April 6, it was reported that DOGE planned to lay off nuclear missile maintenance staff. At the moment, the management has not yet made final decisions, and therefore various options are being considered.
Also on March 30, WP announced the dismissal of hundreds of employees of the US Institute of Peace by decision of DOGE. According to the newspaper, some employees of the institute were offered severance pay or an extension of medical insurance in exchange for their signatures waiving the right to file a lawsuit. It was noted that in total, USIP has about 600 employees in offices around the world.
