China noted Russia's desire for peace

"This decision is a gesture of goodwill from the Russian side in political terms, showing that Russia really wants to end the conflict. In the political context, this is a clear victory for Putin on the path to peace," she told the RIA Novosti news agency.

Xiaohua added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed to observe the truce only after the intervention of "Western patrons from London, Paris and Berlin."
