Two runners died during a half marathon in Alma Ata

Two participants, 84—year-old Akkoyan Rsaliev and 21-year-old Nurbol Akhmadi, died during the Almaty Half Marathon. This was announced on April 20 by the organizers of the event on the website.
"The organizers acted according to the regulations: medical services, emergency services and the police worked promptly and in a timely manner. Despite the measures taken, it was not possible to save the lives of the participants," the message says.
The half marathon took place along the route from the Park of the first President to the Central Stadium. The athletes covered distances of 21 km and 100 m.
The organizers said that Rsaliev had been participating in the races since 2021. During the Almaty Half Marathon on the 1st km, a man fell. When the doctors arrived, he no longer had a pulse. The preliminary conclusion says that the cause of death was pulmonary embolism.
The second victim, Ahmadi, lost consciousness on the 16th km. Death occurred before the ambulance arrived. Earlier, the man also took part in the races. The cause of death will be determined based on the results of a forensic medical examination.
Earlier, on March 31, boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrevaju from Nigeria died at the age of 40 after a light heavyweight bout in Ghana. This fight was supposed to be the 24th in the boxer's career.
