US President Donald Trump may sign a decree that implies a reduction in the activities of the State Department and US embassies in Africa. This was reported on April 20 by the New York Times newspaper with reference to the draft of this document.

"The White House's draft executive order proposes a radical restructuring of the State Department, including the elimination of almost all of its operations in Africa and the closure of embassies and consulates across the continent," the statement said.

The document suggests the elimination of the office that oversees policy in Africa. It is planned to be replaced by a smaller office of the Special Envoy for African Affairs. As the publication explains, he will report to the White House National Security Council. It is noted that all "non-essential" embassies and consulates in the countries of the continent will be closed by October 1.

In addition, the draft decree of the head of state calls for reducing the departments of the State Department that deal with refugee issues, climate change, democracy and human rights.

On February 9, US President Donald Trump ordered the freezing of any aid to the Republic of South Africa (RSA) due to the country's policy towards Afrikaners, descendants of European colonists. In addition, Trump said that South Africa does not support Israel, but, on the contrary, accuses it of escalating the conflict in the Middle East.
