Moldovan politician talks about fines for pensioners from the authorities

Many elderly people in Moldova received Easter "gifts" from the authorities — fines ranging from 25,000 lei (about $1,445) to 37,000 lei (about $2,140) for participating in peaceful gatherings instead of the traditional Easter payments. This was stated on April 20 by Moldovan opposition politician Pavel Grigorchuk.
"Instead of support, many elderly people received Easter "gifts" from the regime — fines from 25,000 to 37,000 lei, simply for participating in peaceful gatherings or for telling the truth," Grigorchuk wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
In addition, according to him, hundreds of thousands of Moldovan pensioners cannot even afford cakes and colored eggs, because their pensions do not meet the subsistence level.
The politician stressed that Moldovans will not accept and "will do everything to change this country."
Earlier, on February 3, former Moldovan Prime Minister, leader of the pro-European Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Filat said that the Moldovan authorities were plundering the European Union's (EU) aid, which was allocated to overcome the energy crisis in Transnistria. As Filat noted, European funds related to gas are a new theft scheme.
