The ban of the European Union (EU) for member states to visit Russia during the celebration of Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) on May 9 rehabilitates the ideology of Nazism. This was announced on April 20 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin.

"There is no such word that would characterize this phenomenon, I am not being ironic now, it is incomprehensible to the mind how the European Union openly wants to renew the European ideology of Nazism," the minister said in a fragment of a video posted on the journalist's Telegram channel.

According to Lavrov, the Russian side will "make every effort" to ensure that European countries return to their "true values" and that Nazi views do not spread in them. At the same time, the Russian Foreign Minister clarified that the EU is currently continuing to revive such an unacceptable attitude towards Russia.

On April 14, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kallas, warned European officials that if they visited Russia to participate in Victory Day celebrations, they would face "consequences."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called her statement harsh and incorrect on April 15. He noted that such threats should be assessed by the States to which they are addressed.
