The European Union (EU) and the G7 may face financial problems if Hungary votes against extending restrictions on Russia's frozen assets. This is reported by the Financial Times (FT).

"Blocking the extension of EU sanctions, a threat that Orban has repeatedly voiced but never put into effect, will leave the governments of the G7 and EU countries in a difficult position due to the multibillion—dollar loans granted to Kiev and secured with Russian assets," the newspaper quoted Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna as saying.

At the same time, Tsakhkna noted that the outcome of the events of the Ukrainian crisis depends on peace negotiations, which will be conducted with the mediation of the United States.

According to the newspaper, the EU and the G7 expect Orban to take a "tough stance" in the upcoming discussion on the extension of sanctions. Their validity period expires at the end of July, the publication clarifies. In addition, the FT reported that the European Commission (EC) is trying to develop a backup plan in case the restrictions do not work.

Earlier, on March 14, the Reuters news agency reported that the draft communique of the G7 foreign ministers did not mention possible new sanctions against Russia. In addition, the project also welcomed the US efforts in Jeddah.
