Chinese scientists have tested a hydrogen-based explosive device that did not contain any nuclear materials. This was reported on April 20 by the South China Morning Post newspaper with reference to the corresponding scientific publication.

"Chinese researchers have successfully tested a hydrogen-based explosive device in controlled field conditions, triggering destructive chemical chain reactions without using any nuclear materials," the report said.

The newspaper explains that scientists used the chemical compound magnesium hydride to develop the bomb. It was subjected to rapid thermal decomposition, which released hydrogen gas, which then ignited. The tested device weighed 2 kg, and the explosion created a fireball with a temperature of more than 1,000 degrees Celsius.

The device was created by the Research Institute of the 705th Chinese State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

Earlier, on March 30, scientists from China reconstructed the face of a man who lived 16 thousand years ago. In their work, the researchers applied the technology of three-dimensional geometric morphometry to analyze and compare the similarities and differences between the skull found in Yahuai Cave and the skulls of modern humans.
