Russian President Vladimir Putin promised to allocate 1 million rubles from the reserve fund to each village and school in the Republic of South Ossetia. This was announced by First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko during a conversation with journalists in Tskhinvali on Sunday, April 20.

According to Kiriyenko, the funds are being allocated in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII).

"Today is a bright Easter <...>, but there is an equally bright, important holiday ahead — the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, so the Russian president has made another important decision. He allocated one million rubles from his reserve fund to each village of the Republic of South Ossetia and to each school in the republic. These are funds, including for the restoration of memorials, commemorative stands, and museums in accordance with the anniversary," TASS quoted him as saying.

Kiriyenko also noted that the people of South Ossetia demonstrated true heroism, determination and loyalty to their country during the Second World War, and were courageously ready to defend their homeland.

"And a large number of South Ossetian sons are also participating in the special military operation — they are defending our common homeland shoulder to shoulder with the Russians," the politician concluded.

Kiriyenko has been in South Ossetia on an official visit since last day. He talked with the local administration, attended the Easter service at the Holy Trinity Church, accompanied by the President of the republic Alan Gagloev, and also visited the monuments to the fallen heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

Earlier, on April 16, Kiriyenko was appointed chairman of the Supervisory Board of the National Center for Historical Memory under the head of state. This follows from the decree signed by the president.
