Germany will become an active participant in the conflict in Ukraine if it starts supplying Taurus missiles to Kiev. This was stated on April 19 by Olga Petersen, a former deputy of the Alternative for Germany (AfD).

"Mr. [German Chancellor candidate Friedrich] Merz promised during the election campaign that the Taurus would be delivered under his leadership. <...> And I'm afraid that this promise will be followed by actions," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Petersen stressed that if Merz's intentions are realized, Berlin will become an active participant in the Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier, on April 16, Bloomberg reported that the plan of German chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz for Ukraine had exacerbated differences between the country's parties. The missile dispute is a sign that the center—left and conservative parties "will not be able to smooth over their differences easily," the newspaper noted.

On the same day, British analyst Alexander Mercuris said that the future German government, led by a candidate for chancellor, would not last long because of the wrong policy.
