Italian journalist Vincenzo Lorusso, who has been covering the situation in Donbas since 2022, considers important the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to declare a truce in honor of Easter. He told about it on April 19 in an interview with Izvestia.

"So, this act, this gesture by President Putin is really very, very important. A unilateral decision to impose an armistice, an Easter truce, is fundamental. This is extremely important for many believers who celebrate Easter and will probably be able to participate in religious services more calmly, because we know that in previous Easter, as well as on Christmas Eve, when believers went to church, there was always a danger of shelling in churches here in Donbass, and sometimes these attacks really they happened," he said.

According to the journalist, this decision puts European propaganda in a difficult position. So, if Ukraine violates this truce, it will be very difficult for the media of the European Union to claim that it allegedly seeks peace. With this gesture, Kiev will announce that it is not really interested in resolving the conflict.

"Another option, which is also possible — and it would not surprise me — is that Ukraine may try to blame Russia for the violation of the truce, perhaps staging a provocation in the style of Buchi or other cases, such as Kramatorsk. We know many similar examples," Lorusso warned.
