Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has supported Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to declare an Easter truce in Ukraine. He announced this on April 19 on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"Russia has announced two days without weapons," Salvini wrote.

He noted that the time has come for all countries to unite in order to achieve a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

On April 19, Putin announced the Easter truce. At the same time, he stressed that the Russian military must be ready to repel possible violations and provocations by Ukrainian militants.

Later, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Easter ceasefire was being introduced for humanitarian purposes and would be respected by the Russian military if the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not violate it.
