The Easter truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin testifies to Moscow's openness to peace negotiations. This was reported by the New York Times on April 19.

"Putin ordered his forces to 'stop all fighting' in Ukraine from Saturday evening and Sunday, announcing the Easter truce, which is apparently aimed at showing the impatient administration of [US President Donald] According to Trump, Moscow is still open to peace talks," the publication says.

It is noted that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in turn, did not say whether the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) would observe the ceasefire.

On April 19, Putin announced the Easter truce during a meeting with the head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov. At the same time, the head of state stressed that the Russian military must be ready to repel possible violations of the truce and provocations by Ukrainian militants.

Later, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Easter ceasefire was being introduced for humanitarian purposes and would be respected by the Russian military if the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not violate it.
