- The media reported a shortage of pistachios due to the popularity of Dubai chocolate

The rapid growth in popularity of Dubai chocolate has led to a global shortage of pistachios and a sharp increase in their prices. This was reported on April 19 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
Dubai chocolate became popular in 2023 due to a TikTok video that garnered over 120 million views. As the newspaper notes, the high demand for the product provoked a shortage of pistachios.
"When Dubai chocolate appeared, everyone started buying up the pistachio kernels that came into their hands. <...> For this reason, the rest of the world was in short supply," Giles Hacking, a representative of CG Hacking, told the publication.
Another factor that led to the shortage is the low harvest of pistachios in the United States, which is the main exporting country, the newspaper reports. In addition, the pistachios in the current crop are of higher quality than usual. Because of this, there are fewer cheap nut kernels without shells that manufacturers have been able to use as ingredients for chocolate.
FT notes that as a result, pistachio prices increased from $7.65 to $10.30 over the year. Some stores are trying to solve this problem by limiting the number of tiles that a single customer can buy.
Earlier, on October 29, 2024, Anastasia Semenova, a consultant in the field of creative communications, a media manager, spoke about the popularity of Dubai chocolate. She noted that it was a happy accident that turned into a business success.
