The traditional consecration of the Easter meal was held at the Novospassky Monastery in Moscow. This was reported on April 19 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

The believers brought cakes and eggs to receive their blessings for the Easter meal. The consecration also took place at the Church of the Ascension of the Lord outside Serpukhov Gate in Moscow.

Earlier that day, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia held Vespers with the reading of 15 verses and the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. The patriarch also consecrated Easter cakes and eggs.

Vitaly Suchkov, head of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of the capital, said that at least 1.5 million believers are expected to attend services in Moscow on the night of April 19-20.

Earlier on April 19, the Holy Fire descended in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The delegation of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation (FAP) received the Holy Fire in the Jerusalem temple and went to Ben Gurion airport to deliver the flame to Russia.
