Thousands of pilgrims came to the gates of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem to witness the annual miracle of the descent of the Holy Fire. This was reported on April 19 by a correspondent of Izvestia.
"Many people all over the world are waiting for this. The journalists are already inside <...> There are a lot of police officers who are guarding this place," reports journalist Nikita Kulyukhin.
As indicated by the press secretary of the Israeli police, Mikhail Zingerman, law enforcement officers are working in the old city in an enhanced mode.
"There are a huge number of people today, pilgrims from all over the world. Everything necessary is being done to ensure the most important thing — safety," he said.
The Holy Fire is one of the most revered miracles in the Christian world, which takes place annually on Holy Saturday on the eve of Easter at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. In 2025, this event will take place today, April 19th.
Earlier on Saturday, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem blessed the delegation of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation (FAP) for bringing the Holy Fire to Russia and expressed gratitude for this. According to him, such actions are especially important in times when people seek destruction.
On April 18, at the Good Friday service at the Sretensky Monastery in Moscow, the Turin Shroud was taken out. In the Izvestia footage, you can see how the clergy carried her out through the deaconal side doors. Then the shroud was placed in the middle of the temple, after which prayer began.
