FT pointed to an increase in the UK's military interest in the Arctic

The UK plans to expand its military presence in the Arctic amid increasing interest in this part of the world. This was reported on April 18 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
"The UK should expand its military activities in the Arctic and the Far North as the region becomes increasingly contested due to the opening of access to it as a result of melting ice," the newspaper informs.
The relevant report was prepared by a group of experts led by former NATO Secretary General George Robertson at the initiative of the British Government.
On April 13, the selection of schoolchildren and college students to participate in the Great Arctic Expedition started in Moscow. In total, 14 schoolchildren of grades 9-11 and college students will take part in the project. They will have to go to the extreme northern point of Eurasia — Cape Chelyuskin.
