- The Pentagon confirmed the reduction of the military contingent in Syria to less than 1,000.

The Pentagon has confirmed a reduction in the number of US troops in Syria to less than 1,000 in the coming months. This was announced on Friday, April 18, according to a statement from the defense ministry.
"Recognizing the successes achieved by the United States in the fight against [the Islamic State] (IS, ISIL, the organization is recognized as a terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation), including the territorial defeat of the group in 2019 under President Trump, today the Secretary of Defense ordered the consolidation of U.S. forces in Syria," the department writes.
Over the past ten years, the Global Coalition to defeat ISIS has achieved significant success, according to the Pentagon.
Earlier, on April 16, it was reported that the US Armed Forces had begun withdrawing special forces stationed at a military base near the Koniko gas field in the province of Deir ez-Zor in Syria. Troops are being withdrawn to Iraqi Kurdistan, where a large U.S. base is located.
