Wealthy Americans began withdrawing money to Swiss banks because of the duties

Wealthy residents of the United States began to open Swiss bank accounts more and more often due to the economic policies of US President Donald Trump. This was reported by NBC News on Friday, April 18, with reference to Swiss organizations.

"An increasing number of wealthy Americans are opening bank accounts in Switzerland as part of the 'de—Americanization' of their portfolios," the publication says.

Thus, the Americans are trying to diversify some of their dollar assets and create a "spare airfield" in Europe, the media writes.

"It happens in waves. <...> Now duties are causing a new influx," explained Pierre Gabris, CEO of the consulting firm Alpen Partners International.

On April 15, Trump announced that the profits from the new US duties could be so large that they would completely replace the income tax.

On April 9, the US president announced the suspension of duties previously imposed on a number of countries for 90 days. He also announced an immediate increase in duties on products from China to 125%. On April 10, this figure reached 145%.
