Iran will accept some restrictions on uranium enrichment only if there are guarantees that US President Donald Trump will no longer abandon the nuclear deal. This was reported by Reuters on April 18, citing an unnamed Iranian official.

The parties intend to hold a second round of talks on April 19 in Rome, a week after the first round of talks in Oman, which both sides — the United States and Iran — described as positive.

It is specified that the republic will act exclusively in accordance with the position of the country's supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

"Iran will never agree to eliminate its centrifuges for uranium enrichment, as well as completely stop this process or reduce the amount of enriched uranium stored to a level below what it agreed to under the 2015 deal," the agency quoted the official as saying.

In addition, Tehran does not intend to discuss its missile program, which it considers to be beyond the scope of the nuclear deal, the source added.

The first round of negotiations between the United States and Iran on lifting sanctions and nuclear issues ended in Oman on April 12. During the meeting, the Iranian Foreign Minister and the US President's Special envoy for the Middle East, Stephen Witkoff, exchanged the positions of their governments on these issues in the presence of the Omani Foreign Minister. At the end of the meeting, Tehran announced the continuation of negotiations in a week.

Later, on April 18, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, responding to a question from Izvestia, said that the current situation in the negotiations on the nuclear program has developed in such a way that the Islamic Republic cannot conduct direct negotiations with opponents due to incoming threats from the American side.
