In Ukraine, a man tried to flee the country in an oil tank
A citizen of Ukraine tried to flee the country to Moldova, hiding in a tank with vegetable oil. This was announced on April 18 by the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
"Border guards found a very unusual cargo on the border with Moldova. A man was hanging from safety belts in a tank with vegetable oil <...>," the agency's Facebook page says (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
It is specified that the Ukrainian planned to escape by agreement with a familiar driver. In the oil compartment, he drove from Vinnitsa to the Moldovan border.
The State Border Service said the men had been detained. The driver will be charged for illegally transporting people across the border, the department noted.
Ukrainian media reported on April 7 that two men had been walking for eight days in the Carpathian Mountains in western Ukraine in an attempt to cross the border with Romania to avoid mobilization, but were caught in a snowstorm, after which they asked for help.
In January, it was noted that the Border Agency of the European Union (EU) is recording more and more detentions of Ukrainians for illegally crossing the borders of Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. The official reports of the department reflect more than 13.8 thousand cases from January to November 2024. This is the largest number of illegal immigrants among citizens of the EU's neighboring countries.
