Milk chocolate is considered the least healthy dessert. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, improves mood and stimulates brain activity. Natalia Shilova, a nutritionist, certified personal trainer, and expert in functional training, told Izvestia about this on April 20.

According to the expert, chocolate can bring both significant benefits and serious harm, depending on the type and amount of consumption.

She explained that dark chocolate with a cocoa bean content of more than 60% is the most valuable. The expert shared: A number of studies have confirmed that regular consumption of high-quality chocolate can reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases by 37%.

"Scientists have also been tracking the cognitive abilities of New York State residents for several decades. As a result, a positive correlation was found between chocolate intake and mental abilities. People who ate chocolate at least once a week tended to show better mental abilities," the expert said.

However, Shilova warned about the need to strictly observe consumption standards. The recommended daily serving of dark chocolate is 20-30 grams, which is equivalent to several slices. For milk chocolate, this dose should be halved due to the high sugar and saturated fat content.

"Milk chocolate is considered the most harmful because of its high sugar content and additives, as it contains a lot of saturated pro-inflammatory fats. When choosing what to eat for dessert, make a decision in favor of dark chocolate," the specialist recommended.

Earlier, on March 29, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the State University of Education Irina Lyalina told Izvestia about the dangers of eating sweets at night. According to her, the main reason why it is harmful to eat sweets at night is a sharp spike in blood sugar levels. The fact is that the body processes sugar more slowly at night, which increases the load on the pancreas. Excess sugar turns into fat, which increases the risk of obesity. In addition, sugar disrupts nighttime metabolism, which can worsen sleep, the expert emphasized.
