A solemn start of production of the new Lada Iskra model took place at the AvtoVAZ plant in Tolyatti, the Izvestia correspondent reports from the scene on April 19. The novelty will occupy a market niche between the Granta and Vesta models. The start of sales of Lada Iskra is scheduled for July 20 this year. Prices have not been specified yet.

The maximum production capacity of the enterprise is 150 thousand copies of Iskra per year, however, the actual volumes will be calculated based on the market situation, AvtoVAZ said.

A new line with 17 automatic complexes and 112 robots has been created at the plant for welding Lada Iskra bodies. Assembly and painting are carried out in the same workshops as Granta, which have been upgraded to a new design. In particular, new robots for applying soil have been installed.

The company stated that Iskra's localization level exceeds 90%. The model partially uses the technical solutions used on the Vesta: part of the chassis elements, braking system, electronic architecture, controls, and more.

About 300 Iskra vehicles were produced for testing, development of production technologies and training for the start of industrial production. The prototypes were tested both at the AVTOVAZ landfill and on public roads.

During the safety tests, 84 crash tests of the car and its individual systems were conducted. AvtoVAZ stressed that the new product significantly exceeds national requirements and demonstrates a level of safety comparable to Lada Vesta and foreign analogues of the B-class.

The day before, AvtoVAZ announced an increase in the level of robotics at the enterprise. New robotic welding systems are installed in the Lada Iskra welding workshop, which is ready for the start of industrial production. The main commissioning work has been completed.

On April 9, AvtoVAZ announced the complete restoration of technology in the former workshops of pilot industrial production (OPP) in Tolyatti. Previously, production of the VAZ-2123 SUV (which later became the Chevrolet Niva) began on it, and the assembly of Kalina and other models was being worked out.
