Viruses and other malicious software can be installed in cheap smartphones in the price range of up to 5,000 rubles. The Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo told about how to protect yourself from such a purchase on Friday, April 18.

The department explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru Some of the smartphones available in Russian electronics stores and popular marketplaces are imported into the country unofficially, bypassing direct shipments from the manufacturer.

Smartphones imported under gray imports may not pass certification and quality control, which increases the risk of acquiring a device with malicious software, Roskachestvo stressed.

The agency recommended avoiding the purchase of budget models, as a low price almost always means a compromise in the quality of components and safety. Cheap cellular communication modules in budget smartphones may not contain security protocols, experts say. The user should also make sure that the smartphone being purchased is certified and meets all security standards.

Earlier, on April 17, experts from the Informzashita holding said that malware can be detected on the device by checking through an antivirus. It is also worth paying attention to changes in the functioning of technology: opening applications without the user's knowledge, faster energy consumption, slower reaction to cursor movement.

Russians were advised not to download files obtained from questionable sources, use two-factor authentication, create different passwords for different accounts, and change them regularly.

Earlier, on April 1, it was reported that a virus was detected on some Android smartphones, which gives attackers almost unlimited opportunities to control the phone, including over the Telegram account, RT reports.
