US President Donald Trump will not be able to buy Greenland because the price will be very high. This was reported on April 18 by Bloomberg, citing law professors Joseph Blocker and Mitu Gulati.

"Perhaps the most difficult and unavoidable issue concerns the price. Imagine that each of the 57,000 Greenlanders would have to offer $1 million <...> and Trump's golden visa to vote for joining the United States. This is already costing trillions of dollars," the article says.

According to experts, the US Congress will never approve such costs, which will entail forced tax increases or debts. They also added that a direct purchase is simply impossible "at least for financial reasons."

In December last year, Trump said that for the United States, ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity. Prior to that, he expressed interest in buying the island from Denmark in 2019, but was refused. In 2025, Trump was also told that the island was not for sale and would not be, but Denmark could cooperate more with the United States.

On March 30, Greenland's new prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, announced that the United States would not receive the island. He explained that Greenland does not belong to anyone. According to him, "it was like that yesterday, it is like that today, and it will be like that in the future."
