The great consecration of the viands, according to the church charter, takes place either after the liturgy of Holy Saturday, or after the night Easter service. In most churches, consecration begins in the afternoon of Saturday and ends shortly before the beginning of Midnight, and then resumes at night — after the completion of the Easter Liturgy, at about three o'clock in the morning.
If the faithful cannot attend the night service, the Easter meal can be consecrated on Sunday morning, before noon.
The Easter basket should contain only those foods that the family really plans to consume on Bright Sunday — it is not customary to leave and throw away consecrated foods.
Traditionally, believers bring cakes, Easter cakes, colored eggs, bread, and cheese to the temple. Sugar, salt and other seasonings are also allowed to be consecrated. But alcohol, including wine, is not recommended.
