The Pskov Regional Court upheld the decision to arrest the former rector of Pskov State University, Natalia Ilyina, accused of fraud. This was announced on April 18 by the joint press service of the courts of the region.

It is indicated that the defense considers Ilyina's arrest illegal and insists on its cancellation.

"The court of appeal <...> agreed with the conclusions of the court of first instance, which chose a preventive measure in the form of detention, without finding grounds for changing it to a different, milder one," the Telegram channel of the courts of general jurisdiction of the Pskov region says.

It is specified that such a decision was made after reviewing the case materials and hearing the arguments of the parties.

Ilyina was detained on April 8, and the next day the Pskov City Court sentenced her to two months in prison. According to the investigation, the rector employed a non-existent employee at the university, through whose salary she cashed out 10 million rubles. In addition, for several years she appropriated salary increases and bonuses accrued to university staff.
