The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced Joseph Philip McDonald, a British mercenary who participated in military operations on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), to more than 14 years in prison in absentia. This was reported on April 18 on the website of the DPR prosecutor's office.

It is specified that the person involved arrived on the territory of Ukraine, where he voluntarily joined the first infantry battalion "Wolfhound" of the International Legion as a mercenary. According to the investigation, the mercenary received a reward of more than 2.1 million rubles for participating in hostilities against the Russian army.

"Taking into account the position of the public prosecutor, the court sentenced McDonald in absentia to 14 years and six months in prison to serve his sentence in a high—security penal colony," the statement said.

Earlier in the day, the press service of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR) reported that an Australian citizen would stand trial for participating in the conflict in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was established that he had signed a contract with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense for military service in the 66th separate mechanized brigade.
