It is planned to bring self-driving cars to public roads in Russia by 2027. This was announced on April 18 by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that the tests of driverless trucks were successful, but it is still necessary to refine the technology and agree on the rules.

"A roadmap has been developed for the development of self-driving cars until 2028. <...> The main goal is to create uniform rules and infrastructure for the safe use of autonomous transport," the agency's Telegram channel says.

The Ministry of Transport added that the regulatory framework should ensure traffic safety, and the success of scaling the project depends on the quality of roads, smart sensors and integration with digital platforms.

On February 4, it was reported that more than 80% of cars in Russia could become self-driving by 2042. Autonomous solutions will be implemented in predictable and isolated environments such as warehouses and logistics centers. Then the technology will spread to trunk logistics, and then to urban transport and mass transportation.
