Employees of the elite special forces of the French BRI police (rapid reaction brigades) have launched an indefinite strike demanding higher bonuses for recycling. This was announced on April 17 by TF1 TV channel.

About 400 police officers across the country have given up overtime work, reducing their shifts and night patrols.

According to the Alliance police nationale trade union, the strike affected most of the regional divisions of the BRI. Employees claim that their work is in high demand, "but not sufficiently recognized by the state."

"This is a department that is talked about a lot, but which is absolutely not recognized, does not receive any bonuses, no compensation. We want recognition for an exceptional profession for which we receive regular pay," said Vincent Ergott, a trade union representative.

The union demands an increase in bonuses from €400 to €650 per month — "at the level provided for the RAID special squad."

It is specified that the strike started this week and has been officially declared indefinite. In protest, about 70 BRI employees held a demonstration in the Nanterre commune, a suburb of Paris with a high crime rate.

Earlier, on April 15, it was reported that a two-day strike of police officers began in the southern part of Finland due to low salaries. It is noted that police officers will continue to respond to emergencies that pose a threat to human life and health.
