The United States needs to move on after three years of supporting Ukraine amid the conflict. This was announced on April 18 by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"I think that, from the point of view of the United States, we have spent three years, billions of dollars, supporting the Ukrainian side. But now we have reached a point where we have other things to focus on," he said at a press conference before flying to Italy.

He stressed that Washington is ready to support Kiev for as long as it takes to reach a settlement, but "not indefinitely, not without progress." According to him, if a peaceful settlement is not possible in the near future, the United States "will have to move on."

Rubio expressed the opinion that US President Donald Trump, among other things, may consider that the American side has devoted a huge amount of time to the Ukrainian conflict. He noted that during the 80 days of the current head of state's presidency, the administration has done more to end the conflict than former leader Joe Biden.

He stressed that the United States is ready to help if one or both sides of the conflict are committed to a peaceful settlement.

"If you are serious about peace, one side or both, we want to help. If that doesn't happen, then we'll just move on. We will move on to other topics that are equally, if not more, important to the United States," Rubio concluded.

During the press conference, Rubio also said that the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions depends on the participation of EU countries in negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict. He stressed that the European side should take part in the negotiations, since the conflict is taking place on their continent.

Commenting on his statement about the possible withdrawal of the United States from the settlement in the absence of progress, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that Moscow could state "some progress." He attributed the corresponding progress to the moratorium on strikes on energy infrastructure facilities.
