Auto expert named the worst option for buying summer tires

Buying summer car tires on the secondary market can lead to serious problems during operation. Such tires may have hidden damages and flaws, although visually they may be without defects or even resemble new ones. This was stated by Alexey Abrameytsev, Head of the Technical Customer Support Department at JSC Cordiant.
"The days of tire shortages in the market are long gone, and if the budget does not allow you to purchase a premium manufacturer's kit, it is better to give preference to tires of a different price segment, but new ones, against those that were already in use," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted him as saying on April 18.
The specialist recommended not to purchase tires of unknown brands from China due to poor performance and unstable quality. He also warned against buying tires in non—specialized places - these are little-known outlets and marketplaces.
In addition, tires from online platforms are not always subject to additional bonuses from manufacturers, namely various promotions and loyalty programs (free tire service, extended factory warranty, compensation for repairs or replacement of tires in case of damage during operation), he noted.
On April 16, it was reported that for the year from March 2024 to March 2025, the average price of premium summer tires for passenger cars increased by 3.6%, while winter tires increased by 8.9%.
On April 3, auto expert Nikolai Pogulyaev recalled that worn tires significantly increase braking distance, and traction deteriorates with critically low tread depth. Tires with a small tread drain water worse, which increases the risk of aquaplaning.
