NATO officials are softening the wording in the new legislation to avoid retaliatory measures from US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on April 18, citing sources.

According to the publication, the North Atlantic Alliance faces an "uncertain future" during Trump's second presidential term.

"In the new NATO legislation, which was developed by the committee and working groups [of the alliance], the wording regarding climate, women and security has been changed to phrases that are considered more acceptable to the United States," the article says.

According to one of the sources, the "climate" was changed to an "operational environment," and "green technologies" were designated as "innovative." Another unnamed official clarified that everyone sees the position of the Trump administration and does not want to take actions that could harm it.

Politico clarifies that officials avoid any language related to "gender" or "women, peace and security," as they want the bill to be adopted by all 32 member countries of the alliance, including the United States.

At the end of January, Trump signed an executive order to close all diversity and inclusion programs. In February, the American film company Paramount began reviewing its approach to Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) among its employees amid statements by the American president. The film company also announced its intention to stop collecting data on gender and diversity for many job applicants in the United States.
