The United States is ready to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine if both sides are determined to achieve peace. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this at a press conference on April 18.

"If both sides are serious about achieving peace, then we want to help," he said.

The Secretary of State also noted that the United States needs to understand in the near future whether a peaceful settlement is likely to be reached quickly. He added that the Ukrainian conflict is an important topic, but there are many other issues "worthy of American attention."

"We need to understand now, within a few days, whether this is possible (a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. — Ed.) in the short term, because if not, then we will just move on," Rubio stressed.

At the same time, according to the Secretary of State, the United States is not yet ready to discuss details on security guarantees for Ukraine.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the US Secretary of State held a telephone conversation and discussed the Ukrainian conflict. During the conversation, the Russian Foreign Minister confirmed Moscow's readiness to continue working together with Washington to reliably eliminate the root causes of the crisis in Ukraine.

In turn, Rubio said that the "encouraging reception" of the American delegation in Paris showed the possibility of achieving peace if all parties commit to reach this agreement.

On the same day, the media reported on the arrival of Rubio and the American leader's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Witkoff, in France. According to the representative of the United States Department of State Tammy Bruce, at a meeting of representatives of the United States, the European Union (EU) and Ukraine in Paris, the delegations should discuss the cessation of hostilities.
