Moldovan President Maia Sandu announced on April 17 that she would decide on the possibility of accepting credentials from the new Russian ambassador to Chisinau, Oleg Ozerov, in the coming weeks.

"I did not agree to accept the credentials because a lot of unfriendly actions were committed against our country," Sandu said on Jurnal TV, which was broadcast on Youtube.

According to Sandu, this procedure was delayed due to the alleged "large number of false and unfriendly statements by the Kremlin against the Republic of Moldova."

On March 31, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova declared three employees of the Russian Embassy persona non grata in the republic. The relevant document was handed over to the Russian diplomat. It claims that the staff of the diplomatic mission allegedly conduct activities contrary to their diplomatic status in Moldova.

On the same day, the Russian Embassy in Moldova called the allegations of Russian interference in the republic's internal affairs unfounded and unacceptable. The Russian delegation called on Chisinau to refrain from provocative speculation and return to a pragmatic bilateral dialogue with Moscow.
